This unique partnership of a resettlement agency affiliate and national faith-based community sponsorship nonprofit will enable the launch of a co-sponsorship program, a form of community sponsorship focused on newly arrived refugees, as well as support community sponsorship programming for other forcibly displaced populations in Southern California. IRIS and Home for Refugees will work together to recruit, train, match, and support sponsors who will commit to one year of sponsorship support.
"While refugee arrivals are at a historic low, the need is at an all-time high. California is home to the largest asylee population in the US and there is an urgent and increasing need for coordinated support. The high cost of living in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area exacerbates the need for cosponsorship teams to help cover gaps in rent and other unmet financial needs for new arrivals, while they look for work and transition to self-sufficiency."
"The IRIS and HFR partnership will help vulnerable families start new lives in the U.S. while also demonstrating the training, support, and coordination that organizations such as IRIS and HFR can jointly provide. This will inspire groups across the region who have previously hesitated to take on co-sponsorship, but are now empowered to form co-sponsorship groups building on IRIS and HFR's model of collaboration and with the peace of mind that their client families will have dedicated support for a full year."
"CSCF support will open the door to expand cosponsorship “home team” opportunities throughout the region, formalize a coordinated effort with the resettlement agencies that begins from the moment of a family’s arrival, strengthen and broaden critical partnerships, train more volunteers, and successfully resettle more refugees and other displaced families. Our vision is for every refugee to have a home that supports safety, freedom, and dignity."
